Allison Ayer and Adam Chandler were recently published in the 2017 edition of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association Journal. URMIA is non-profit educational association serving colleges and universities to promote effective risk management practices in higher education. Its members include insurance professionals, risk managers, and other business people, as well individuals from more than 600 institutions across the country. Their article, “Preparing for the Worst: A Guide for Active Shooter Response Plans that Mitigate the Risk of Liability and Save Lives” addresses both the legal risks to institutions presented by an active shooter situation, as well as offering practical advice for developing response plans that could ultimately save lives.
